The Flow network

The Flow network is a public, layer-1 blockchain. Layer-1 means it is a base network that settles its own transactions and runs its own smart contracts, rather than depending on another chain to do so. It was designed for consumer applications and for scale, so that many people can use an app at the same time.

Developers deploy smart contracts and applications directly on the Flow network. Its history is tied to consumer areas such as digital collectibles, gaming, and finance, and it supports both its own contract language and applications written for the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

Like any public blockchain, the Flow network records transactions openly and is maintained by a distributed set of participants rather than a single company. On-chain activity carries the usual risks, including smart-contract risk and the market risk of assets held or traded on the network.
